I think one of my favorite things in the world is when adults get so geeked out about something they're into that they end up sounding like an excitable little kid when they talk about it, all bright-faced and grinny and breathless and using "And then"s and "it was the coolest thing ever"s. Especially when the subject matter is particularly adult-like and WAY over the heads of little kids:
"Oh oh! Like a couple years ago I went to this seminar about myelination where the presenter brought in video footage of Michael Jordan and Michael Jordan would be doing a slam-dunk or something and he would freeze mid-air and this explanation would pop up on-screen of precisely all the physiological activities that were playing a role in that one single action--from the brain stem to the messages being relayed from the eyes to the nerve impulses involved. It was SO COOL. *Grinning hugely and waving hands excitably* And everything just comes down to myelination, you know? I mean, the only reason that Michael Jordan can do what he does is just because he's way more myelinated than the rest of us. THAT'S IT. But man, I just kept thinking how cool is that, seeing exactly all the little physiological functions that come together for just that one slam-dunk? It was SO FREAKIN' COOL."
It makes me wanna squish them so hard that they pass out.
